Song Tang Hospice Eleventh grader Savio Wong has suggested, planned, and carried out a fundraising effort linked directly to the theme of this year’s UN Day, focusing on the elderly. During a visit to Song Tang Hospice, Savio asked Dr. Li, the director to identify current needs. As a result of that conversation, Savio implemented a plan to raise money through Homerooms. By UN Day, October 26, Homerooms (and supporters of Homerooms) contributed RMB 4129. With this money, Savio was able to purchase 150 blankets for the residents of the hospice.

World Aids Day - December 1 To draw attention to this day and to rise awareness, Interact prepared red ribbons to give to students and faculty members on December 1; put up informational displays; and carried donation boxes for contributions to the Australian-Chinese Joint Peer Education Program. Dr Gao Yuan, director of the program, will use the money in a very practical way, for lunches and taxi fares for peer educators as they carry out their work of AIDS education among medical students in Beijing.
Hope Foster Home Students worked on two projects in support of the Hope Foster Home. The first was a joint art project with the primary school branch of Roots & Shoots in order to decorate the walls of the foster home. Together second graders and high school students made a colorful border of hands to go around an entire room and made several finger-paintings as well. The second project was the annual fundraiser, held on April 28. The Buy-a-Friend auction itself brought in RMB 7,900. Donation boxes carried throughout the day netted an additional RMB 1,300. This money, presented to the founders of the Hope Foster Home, Robin and Joyce Hill, during the last meeting of the year, will be used toward the purchase of air conditioners for the children’s bedrooms. The Hills, along with their daughter Amber (a June 2000 ISB graduate), brought to the meeting the first two babies of the home, Kaitlyn and Daniel. Mr. Hill explained how the ideas and plans for the home originated and gave information on its construction as well as operating costs.
